So, you thought it was safe to go back into the (Google) waters again, huh?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Penguin 3.0 update that Google began rolling out around October 18th is still ongoing. How can I tell?
Well, for one, and I think I’ve mentioned this before, I work with a team that maintains some “test” sites that allows us to see what Google’s really up to. Not just what they claim they’re doing, but what they’re really doing.
Second, I know unequivocally that there was yet another update on November 2nd. How? I have some new client sites that took a major LEAP!
Yep, you read that right. They didn’t take a hit, they saw a major jump. As in some jumped more than 30 spots on that day.
So how do I know that it was related to Penguin? Well, I didn’t just see one site jump, I saw multiple sites jump.
I know, I know. You’re thinking, “I thought Penguin was a penalty!” Well, it is if you’re on the receiving end. Neither I, not my clients were on the penalty end of this update, but their competitors were!
This means that while their competitors were penalized, my clients were rewarded with a major shift in their rankings – for the better!
I also hate to say this, but no one knows for sure whether Google is done yet. I have seen some additional evidence that it’s still continuing. There’s nothing conclusive as of today, but you can bet that I will be on top of any changes they push out and my clients will be among the first to know.
